Is it bigger than a bread box?

It is one of my favorite days. Trash to Treasure Tuesday!!! Be sure to head on over to Kimm's amazing and newly designed blog @ Reinvented. Also give Second Time Around a try @ A Picture is Worth A 1,000 words.

I have been hunting high and low for some good trash and let me tell you it is slim pickins around here. While looking at my local thrift store (which is the worst one in the State) I found a bread box. I skipped it the first time and went home. I liked it because it was wooden and a box, besides that it was so dirty. Sticky dirty. I started thinking of all the different ways I could use it like: treasure box, toy box, toilet paper holder, a place for extra hand towels and wash cloths. The ideas just kept coming. So, I went back to buy it and found another one too. They were each $2.

The first one I painted. Then added some ribbon and a small embellishment.

It now holds my makeup. Yeah, I should have organized that before taking a picture and posting it on the Internet.
The plexi glass on this was so gross. After washing the whole thing I sanded down the strawberries.

I Mod Podged paper onto the plexi glass. I used a knob that matches my kitchen cabinet knobs (giggle, knob, giggle some more). I had Handy Andy cut a hole large enough to cover two outlets. So now....
this looks like....
this...

and this.
Last, but not least, is this little beauty. If you didn't see it last week click here to catch up. Other wise here we are. It was cream, brown and now white. This time it works and she is now complete.

The flower was made with plain ole' printing paper.

Alright I have had a bread box sitting upstairs hidden away because it made my bread stink but I cannot bare to give it away. I am so going to paint it to match my vanity & hide some stuff in it. Thank you!!!!! (And great job)

How lovely! I love the make-up storage. My husband hates staring at all my stuff. It doesn't get put away in the cabinets and drawers like I hope.

I love the box that hides the cords and stuff. A while back I was at an antique shop and saw a roll top bread box that was labeled, "Ladies writing desk, very old". It just cracked me up. Who would be small enough to sit and write at a bread box? It is creative though. Good job on your projects!

Melissa, this is definitely thinking 'out of the box' Pun intended! I like everything you did. I have sen those nasty bread boxes many times and wondered why would anyone buy them. I got my answer today. Nice job.

Ahh I love them all! I do the same thing…..go home and think about all the things I could do with an item. You’re lucky that it was still there when you went back. I’ve gone back a few times to find that what I went back for was gone. I give myself a little it was not meant to be pep talk, drag my feet and find something else to fall in love with.
I’m inspired and will be looking out for one of the lovely bread boxes. I could use one in my office.

Love it!! Very clever ways to make over something that might be considered trash. I really like your finished product with the last one in the pictures and the idea to put your phone inside the box on your counter is great!!

Great posts...love all the boxes. You can never had too many boxes. I don't like a lot of clutter so they help tidy up nicely. I found it funny you said "is it bigger than a breadbox". My mom used to play a guessing game with us and that was one of the first questions. Back then I wasn't sure what a bread box was...LOL. Thanks for the memory!

You've given me an idea for all the unsightly cords hanging round our house. I hate cords. They make everything look so cluttered. D.I., here I come...
